We could produce prefab houses to send to Haiti

On Tuesday evening, January 12, Haiti was yet again hit by disaster. We, the people of Guyana, who are blessed with lots of land and a very small population, can show the world our humanity. Through the UN, Red Cross, Food for the Poor and other agencies, we can allow some of the people to come and settle in Guyana.

The government and other stakeholders would have to work out a plan of location and infrastructural work. Or better yet, we can start by helping to produce new homes. Instead of sending money, we can purchase materials and the makings of a home and build prefab houses. With the help of contractors and the general public, some working for a small wage and others helping, we could produce homes for the people in Haiti. Agencies would be sending clothing, food and other items, so this would be a good chance for us to give them houses to live in.

My neighbour who at present is building my farmhouse told me that five of them constructed prefab houses, one per day for eighty days, except for windows and doors.

Yours faithfully,
Robert Francis
