Large number of fires in the new year -Relief Council

In a press release, the GRC said it recently provided assistance to nine families that suffered losses due to fire during this month: Alice Spencer, from a family of four of Zes Kinderen, Mahaicony; Abigail Forde from a family of nine of Middle Walk, Nabacalis, ECD; Chryslin Dey from a family of five of Zes Kinderen, Mahaicony,; Adrian Gajrag from a family of five and Henry Rodney from a family of seven, both of Waterloo Street; Earline Dover from a family of five of Busby Dam, North Ruimveldt; Pennyhola Wilson from a family of two and Courtney Booker from a family of one both of Barby Dam, North Ruimveldt and Shelley Halley from a family of five of North East La Penitence.

The GRC also said last year it assisted 75 families comprising 315 persons who suffered losses due to fire; three families who suffered losses due to high winds and 141 persons who needed welfare assistance.

The organisation also said it is in need and welcomed support from individuals and organisations in the form of time, financial assistance or building materials to help persons who are experiencing distress.
