Haiti cash relief at $264M -five more containers shipped

“The total for the Haiti Relief now approximates to $264M, of which, a sum of $60M was donated by Guyanese citizens,” a Government Information Agency press release said. Also, five containers packed with clothing, foodstuff and other items left Guyana for Haiti on Tuesday.

On Wednesday the Committee received a total of $621, 560 from Zakir Khan, Chairman of the Wakenaam Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and Sheik Ahmad, a member of the Wakenaam NDC. The Wakenaam NDC also donated 13 bags of clothing and footwear. GINA said a concert was held in Wakenaam to raise funds for Haiti. Additionally the management and staff of the Guyana National Shipping Corporation handed over $300,000 and Burns Memorial Presbyterian church donated $100,000. These donations were handed over to Manickchand at the Civil Defence Commission Office in Thomas Lands.

Manickchand expressed gratitude to citizens fro their response. She also noted that the committee will continue to assist Haiti to the best of its ability.
