Man gets three years for break-and-enter theft

Garfield Rose, 43, entered a guilty plea to the charge of break and enter and larceny when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.

On January 30, he broke and entered the home of Desiree McIntyre and stole a quantity of groceries, clothes, a cell phone charger, and a pressure cooker, among several other items, with a total value of $20,500. However, Rose stated that “I din break in de house… de house deh left open so I just walked right in.”

He also stated that he only took two tins of corned beef and a tin of sardines.

However, Prosecutor Stephen Telford refuted Rose’s story. Telford stated that on the night of the incident McIntyre secured her home and went to bed around 11. He stated that when she woke up just after 6 the next morning, she discovered that her home had been broken into and the items mentioned in the charge were missing. Telford noted that later that day McIntyre saw Rose with her pressure cooker in his hands some distance away from her home and immediately apprehended him herself and took him to the police station, where he admitted stealing the items.

After being sentenced, a distressed Rose was escorted out of the court by a policeman.
