Roberts released on bail

Stabroek News understands that the bail was paid late yesterday afternoon and after the receipt was produced, Roberts, an-ex policeman and former Roger Khan bodyguard, was released from custody.

Roberts was arrested on Monday, minutes after charges for double murders at Iron Punt, North West District last year, were dropped.

It was alleged that Roberts was a member of a gang which murdered Romeo DeAgrella and Clint DeAgrella between March 20 and March 23, last year. The decomposing remains of the DeAgrellas were found days after they failed to return home.

Post-mortem examinations revealed that they died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The matter had been transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrates’ Court sometime ago but after the police failed to take Roberts there, his lawyer Glen Hanoman moved to the High Court and was successful in having the case reassigned to a Georgetown Court.

Hanoman had described the police’s decision to arrest his client minutes after two murder matters were discharged against him as unfair and is a “bad habit” that has been developed.

He also questioned why his client was not questioned during the nine months he was incarcerated.
