There should be lower fares on the Mahaicony Branch Road

Dear Editor,
I pen this letter with the intention that the relevant authorities will intervene in regard to the high fares charged by minibus and taxi operators along the Mahaicony Main Branch Road. The transportation costs facing commuters traversing the Mahaicony Main Branch Road are excessively high. Adult commuters are asked to pay $140 while schoolchildren have to pay $80.

I fully agree that high fares were necessary in past years, because the road was in a deplorable state. However, now there should be a drastic reduction, since a completely new road has been constructed by central government. In my opinion and also that of many who face this dilemma  the new rate for schoolchildren should be $40.

I am calling on the relevant authorities to intervene and have this matter resolved urgently.

Yours faithfully,
Rajiv Bisnauth
