Girl, 13, ordered kept in police custody over murder of man

The teen was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of murder.

It is alleged that on December 27 at Barama Line, Baramita in Region One, she murdered Junior James.

The teen, who wore a blank expression as she stood before the magistrate, kept  saying “nothing din happen.”

Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day of the incident James was sitting in his hammock when the teen, who appeared drunk,  approached him and dealt him several slaps to his face and he got up and rebuked her. This may have infuriated her resulting in the teen picking up a knife and allegedly dealing the man stabs to his left upper leg and pelvic area.

The magistrate subsequently transferred the matter to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court for May 4.
