Bangladesh’s Raqibul Hasan announces surprise retirement

CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh, (Reuters) – Batsman Raqibul  Hasan threw the Bangladesh team into disarray yesterday after  announcing his international retirement just two days before the start of the first test against England.

The middle order batsman handed manager Shafiqul Haque a letter in the afternoon after a practice session before flying out of Chittagong, where the first test between Bangladesh and England will begin tomorrow.

“We have got a letter from Raqibul saying he has retired from all forms of international cricket. He did not mention any  reason,” Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Jalal Yunus said.

Raqibul, 22, was dropped from the one-dayers but made his way back into the side for test series with an unbeaten century and a fifty in a three-day warm-up match against the tourists.
He was not immediately available for comment.
