36 Guyanese playing as pros in Trinidad

Some 36 cricketers from Guyana are currently registered at the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) to participate in domestic cricket in the twin-island republic.

Mahendra Nagamootoo

The players are playing in a varied number of leagues from the highest, the Premiership, to the Zonal level. Leading the pack is former Test player Mahendra Nagamootoo who plays for Moosai Sports. Among the other big name players are the Crandon brothers Esaun and Royston, wicketkeeper Derwin Christian, opener Rajindra Chandrika and all rounder Christopher Barnwell.

The players are normally taken in by clubs who pay them a fee for the season and give them spending allowances, as well as housing. The arrival of the Guyanese players, as well as others from across the Caribbean has transformed the domestic league into a semi-pro set up.
