Man freed of fish vendor murder

His trial commenced on January 25 before Justice James Bovell-Drakes at the High Court. Attorney Glen Hanoman represented Fernandes.

It had been alleged that Fernandes unlawfully killed Latchman “Coolie Boy” Seeram of Riverview, Ruimveldt Georgetown. Latchman’s body was discovered near Muneshwer’s in Georgetown around 7.30 am on July 3, 2005. Reports at the time had said that the deceased stole a quantity of pants, was later chased and fatally lashed to the head.

Judith Gildharie-Mursalin led the state’s prosecution team.

The jury, after deliberating for just over two hours, returned to the courtroom at about 5 pm with a unanimous verdict of not guilty.
