Farmer drowns at Mora Point

After having “a few drinks” and then going swimming, a 30-year-old farmer drowned yesterday at Mora Point, Mahaicony River.

Dead is Nandeshwar Ramrattan of Mora Point. Relatives were reluctant to discuss how the incident occurred but one relative said that after consuming “a few drinks”, Ramrattan went swimming at the riverside in front of his home and disappeared. The incident occurred around 8.30 am and the body was recovered about half an hour later.

According to another resident, Ramrattan was consuming alcohol with two friends earlier yesterday, after which they went to the landing to swim. While in the water, he disappeared. The body was taken to the Lyken’s funeral home. Police are investigating.
