‘Cross Eye’ acquitted of carnal knowledge

The failure by police to make a prima facie case against Gladston Blair, also known as ‘Cross Eye,’ resulted in his acquittal yesterday.

Blair, 41, walked out the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court, after Magistrate Ann McLennan told him he was free to go as a sufficient case was not made out against him for carnally knowing a girl under 15 years and that he was not subject to stand trial in the High Court.

It was alleged that in November last year, Blair had carnal knowledge of a nine-year-old. McLennan also ordered the police to institute a charge against Lizzon Lovelle, who was a witness in the matter, for conspiring to pervert the course of justice. Lovelle allegedly threatened the key witness in the matter not to appear in court.
