Man borrowed phone then fled

-court hears

A not-guilty plea was entered for Mark Daniels when he was charged in absentia with simple larceny by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

It was alleged that on Saturday, March 20, at the Mackenzie/Amelia’s Ward bus park, Daniels, 24, of 1133 Central Amelia’s Ward, stole a cell phone valued $35,000 from Colin Brewster.

Brewster, who testified in court, said that Daniels borrowed his phone to make a call and while he was not paying attention made off with it.

Subsequent calls to the phone indicated that it was turned off and Daniels could not be contacted.

The matter was reported to the Mackenzie Police station.

The case has been fixed for June 2, 2010 for the continuation.
