Dr Jagan’s daughter robbed, punched

At about 3am Avasa and her friend had just opened the front door when they were suddenly attacked by a man.

“He punched me in the face and took away my bag and [mobile] phone,” Avasa told Stabroek News hours after the incident. The perpetrator escaped with her friend’s cellular phone as well.

This is the first time something like this has happened to her, although it could happen to anyone, Avasa said. She further noted that it was an unpleasant incident but it will not result in her being afraid to walk on the streets. The young woman sported a bandage just below the nose.

Avasa believes that she will be able to identify her attacker if the need arises and pointed out that her friend got a better look at the man. “If I have trouble identifying him then she [her friend] will be able to do it,” she said.

Her father, Dr Joey Jagan, said that the matter was reported to the Brickdam police station.

The man, visibly upset, also told Stabroek News  “I am very angry… crime is this country will never reduce.”
