Contract for $293M Leonora school cleared

Two contracts were recently awarded in the education sector including one for the construction of a new secondary school at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon announced yesterday that a contract of $293.5M was cleared by Cabinet for the construction of the school at Leonora. He said too that another contract has been given the green light for the procurement of exercise books for national distribution to the tune of $100 million dollars.

Luncheon said he had no precise information as to whether the new school will replace the current one, but he noted that the new school reflects growth of the surrounding areas. He said there are growing communities at Tuschen and Parfait Harmonie among other areas. Further, he said the school is likely to accommodate close to 1,000 students.
