-two charged with attempted murder

A Whim, Corentyne security guard who has been hospitalized following an attack at his worksite two weeks ago, remains in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital and another person has been charged in relation to the incident.

Kishore Sewdat

Kishore Sewdat sustained injuries to the head during the attack two Sundays ago at a rice bond on the Letter Kenny public road, during which the intruders escaped with several items, leaving the man motionless.

Sewdat’s relatives told this newspaper yesterday that the man had been back and forth between the Intensive Care and the High Dependency units of the public hospital as his condition, remains the same. They said that the 55-year old man had been in a semi-conscious state since the attack and doctors gave him a slim chance of survival.

A relative noted that Sewdat has been able to acknowledge family members during visiting hours at the hospital but according to him, medical staff stated that Sewdat may have sustained injuries to the brain during the attack. It was noted that a rope which was found next to his body during the early morning attack may have been used by the perpetrators to strangle him while several wounds had been observed at the back of the man’s head.

Another man, 21-year-old Dion Tyndal of Ulverston, Corentyne was on Monday remanded to prison on the charge of attempted murder following an appearance at the Whim Magistrate’s Court. Last week, Vallen Smart, 25, also of Ulverston was remanded to prison over the attempted murder of Sewdat.
