Guyana, Dominican Republic discuss expanding agro-trade

Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud recently met with the Dominican Republic government and private sector to discuss expanding exports and securing investments from that country in Guyana’s agriculture sector.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the meeting stemmed from an invitation from the government of the Dominican Republic.

Persaud held talks with his counterpart Minister of Agriculture Salvador Jimenez on a number of issues, the principal one being cooperation between the two countries that would lead to greater economic opportunities for both.

He met with the country’s agribusiness association, Goya officials and visited businesses that have been importing agricultural products from Guyana. Several of the companies expressed interest in establishing processing operations to utilize Guyana’s available agricultural raw produce.

According to GINA, Jimenez said he was hopeful about strengthening trade and possible investments from the Spanish-speaking country in Guyana.
