Man on trial over Vlissengen St bottle murder

Keron Lord, 22, formerly of Lot 46 East La Penitence, Georgetown is to go on trial before Justice William Ramlal for the murder of McGiver Pierre.

The formal indictment was read to him at the Demerara Assizes yesterday. It is alleged that on February 28, 2005 at Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, Lord murdered Pierre following an argument.

Reports reaching this newspaper in 2005 had said that the accused told Pierre something derogatory and a fight broke out. Lord allegedly stabbed Pierre from behind with a broken bottle. The incident occurred at about 10 that night.

Pierre was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his wound some two and a half hours later, reports had said.

On March 3, 2006 Lord appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with the murder. He was remanded to prison by then Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan. A preliminary inquiry was subsequently conducted and Lord was committed to stand trial in the High Court.

Prosecutor Shivani Balcharan is presenting the state’s case while attorney Basil Williams is representing the accused.
