WPO celebrates 57 years of service

The Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) has saluted women and pledges to work harder for their advancement, in a message to mark their 57th anniversary.

According to a press release the WPO was formed at a very historic juncture of Guyana’s history when the PPP was established.

The party said it recognised the role women played in development and undertook the task of setting up the WPO countrywide to boost awareness about downtrodden persons and help to provide the tools for their upliftment. Today, membership spans all the regions and ethnic divides, the release said.

The central committee also acknowledged the tremendous role played by founder member, late former President Janet Jagan who has championed a number of issues to improve the status and upliftment of Guyanese women. The WPO extended gratitude to its members for their committed service and collaboration over the years and pledged to continue this service.
