Row over $100 leads to wounding charge

A man was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with feloniously wounding another over an argument about a $100 debt.

Winech Wilson was not required to plead when the charge was read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

It is alleged that on February 9, he unlawfully wounded Irwin Whitingon with intent to maim, disfigure or cause him actual bodily harm.

Wilson, 30, of 101 Hunter Street, Albouystown said that he had a previous wounding incident with Whitingon.

He added that on the day in question, Whitingon’s  brother asked him for $100 which he had loaned to him.  He said that he told him that he did not have money on him and he would have to wait.  He alleged that Wilson and his brother wanted to beat him up and he merely tried to defend himself when Wilson was injured.

Whitingon said on the day, he, his brother and two others were at City Mall sitting when Wilson approached them.  His brother asked Wilson for the $100 but he told him that he has to wait for the money.

To prevent another problem, he said that he told his brother not to bother with the defendant and that he was going to give him the money.  However Wilson reportedly went up to Whitingon’s brother and was confrontational.  To defuse the situation, he told Wilson to desist.

However, he said that “Wilson draw two blade and fire two shot at me.”  He suffered injuries to the hand and head.  He said after the incident Wilson picked up his bicycle and rode away.

Wilson was then remanded to prison and the matter transferred to Court Two for June 22.
