Bryan adds Under 21 title to bag

Former Caribbean Under-15 table tennis champion Nigel Bryan yesterday won the Under-21 Open singles title as the National Sports Commission annual Independence anniversary tournament continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Trenace Lowe

Bryan defeated Joel Alleyne 3-0 in the final of a division which was lacking its biggest name in Trenace Lowe a past winner of the event.

Lowe told Stabroek Sport that she was discouraged in participating in the event because of the fact that this year’s Caribbean championships will not feature the event which she won last year.

In the finals, Bryan, who needed five games to get rid of Dwayne Gibson in the semi-finals made light work of Alleyne winning 11-8, 11-4, and 11-4.

Third place went to Gibson who edged Denzel Hopkinson in another five setter. Gibson won 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, and 11-8.

The women’s doubles final was won by Chelsea
