Wanted man ‘Colonel’ died from shock and haemorrhage

The post-mortem examination performed on the body of  wanted man David Mc Pherson, called ‘Colonel’, of Betsy Ground, East Canje revealed that he died from shock and haemorrhage as a result of gunshot injuries.

That was the finding of the post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Tuesday.

Mc Pherson, 40,  was shot after he was cornered in a bushy area of a yard behind a shop in his home village. It is understood that he had returned to the area and was hiding out.

According to reports McPherson was wanted by the authorities after an arrest warrant had been issued for him after he had been sentenced to five years imprisonment in his absence. He was also wanted for a number of other offences after coming out of prison in December.

He had encountered the police on a dam when they were  chasing two men who had committed a daring daylight robbery around 07:30 hrs on Betsy Ground businessman, Maurice ‘Bayee’ Sookraj, 58. He was robbed of cash as well as a quantity of articles including jewellery, a  cell phone  and other electronic equipment.

‘Colonel’ had managed to elude police then but it  is understood that he  was being encouraged to surrender by relatives and friends and the man had indicated that he would do so.

Police had recovered an improvised 12-gauge shotgun,  18 live 12-gauge cartridges, two black masks, one wig, one crow bar, one torchlight and a kitchen knife while  a quantity of clothing was  also found in his home.
