Andrew Arts 25-over softball cricket…Deonarine hits unbeaten ton for Georgetown Floodlights

Skipper Ricky Deonaraine struck a brilliant, unbeaten 104 to spur Georgetown Floodlights to a comfortable 75-run win over Industry Super Kings XI in the final of the two-best-in-three Andrew Arts 25-over softball match Friday evening at the National Park Tarmac.

The right-handed former Demerara Inter-County softball player smacked seven sixes and a similar number of fours as his team galloped to 252 for six off the 25 overs.

In reply, the East Coast Demerara combination reached 177 all out in the 22nd over.

Man-of-the-match Deonaraine arrived at the crease with his team struggling at 45-3 in the ninth over and began his assault with three consecutive fours.

He survived a chance when on 45.

He joined forces with Ravendra Madholall in an entertaining fifth-wicket 104-run stand. Madholall hit three sixes in 32.

Other useful support came from opener Ramesh Sunich with 31 and the veteran Wayne Jones, who clobbered three sixes and a four in his unbeaten 32.

Doodie Sookram was the chief wicket-taker for the visitors with two for 36 off his allotted five overs.

Experienced Surendra Nauth batted purposely scoring a defiant 90 for Industry Super Kings hitting seven sixes and three fours.

Orin Hutson chipped in with 22.

Ramchand Ragbeer grabbed three wickets for 29 runs from four overs while Wallack Joseph nabbed three wickets for 30 runs off three overs.

Patrick Khan and Mike Singh picked up two wickets each.

Nauth was adjudged the best batsman, while best bowler was Sookram; best catcher was Hutson and Radesd Kawal copped the best fieldsman prize for Industry Super Kings.

For the winners, the best batsman prize went to Madholall while Ragbeer took home the best bowler award. Sunich was adjudged the best fieldsman while Paul Muffler won the prize for the best catch.

All the prize winners received trophies compliments of Andrew Arts, including Khan, who scored century in the first game, and Industry’s Brian Sookram who made 90 in the second game.

The two teams will now meet in another series scheduled to commence on June 25 at the same venue. This series is sponsored by Bedi Ramjewan’s Auto Parts of Industry, East Coast Demerara.
