The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has donated 15 television sets to the Ministry of Education to be used as teaching aids in schools.
Head of the Communication and Tax Advisory Services Division, Ingrid Griffith said the GRA donated the TVs “as part of social responsibility” as it is keen to assist with education programmes that require the use of the radio, audio and video materials.
She also noted that the agency is not limited to providing assistance in this area.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release,
GRA Communication Officer Melissa Baird who chaired the brief ceremony hosted at Customs House, said that through this gesture the agency will be contributing to the future success of thousands of students countrywide by providing this teaching aid.
Additionally, Senior Subject Specialist/ICT Coordinator Marcia Thomas commented that it is “always exciting when stakeholders get involved in the teaching and training of children.”
She also noted the importance of technology in today’s society and made reference to using a television set and DVD player to teach a set of high school students, who were low achievers, to read and write.
Thomas said she would ensure that the TV sets are placed in schools and use to facilitate training.
According to GINA over the years the ministry has been using televisions, radios and computers to support the delivery of education. The ministry’s Interactive Radio Instruction programme is one example which facilitates interactive learning of mathematics for primary school children.
