Tirbawaniepersaud Totaram

The body of the unemployed Totaram, 47, called ‘Randy’ was discovered around 6:45 am on Thursday across a drain. There was a gaping wound to his head and a steel rod stuck in his groin and protruding through his back.

Relatives believe that he was murdered sometime on Wednesday night along the sea-dam, where a pool of blood was found close to a pair of shorts belonging to him. Police recovered a piece of blood-covered wood close to the scene.

His family members told this newspaper yesterday that they believe that he had left home to go to a house nearby where some persons were drinking to “beg fuh lil rum.” Reports are that an empty rum bottle was found in the pocket of his shorts. Totaram, who was described as a heavy drinker, had been consuming alcohol alone at home earlier. His mother and a brother, who live at the upper flat of his apartment, were not aware that he had gone out that night.

Another pool of blood was also about three feet away from where his body was found. Relatives have become more convinced that he was murdered after they learnt that while one of his feet also had a wound that was bleeding, there was no blood trail leading to the drain. There were also marks of violence “across his ribs” while the groin area was also bleeding. The steel-rod that the body was impaled on was sticking out from a concrete drain that a resident nearby is constructing.

Relatives felt that his body, which was clad only in his underwear, was lifted and deliberately stuck face-down into the one-ft high steel-rod to make it appear as an accident.
