WPA protests airport search on David Hinds

The Working People’s Alliance (WPA) has vehemently protested the search “purportedly for drugs” which was carried out on the luggage of its executive member Dr David Hinds on June 14  as he was departing Guyana.

The WPA in a news release said Hinds was at the time departing Guyana following his visit here to participate in the activities in observance of the 30th anniversary of the assassination of Dr Walter Rodney.

According to the WPA, the report of the search of Hinds “who was clearly singled out for special treatment by the regime which obviously was on a fishing expedition” was first reported by columnist of Kaieteur News Freddie Kissoon on June 22, 2010  and was subsequently confirmed by Dr Hinds himself.

And sources within CANU had confirmed to WPA that they were acting on instructions received from high political officials in the government, the party disclosed.

However, the WPA stated that it would use this opportunity to remind the government that it is this same Hinds who was sentenced to three years imprisonment for his militant activities against the PNC administration.

The WPA contended that to all appearances the PPP/C party and the government are upset with Hinds because he was very critical of them during the lecture entitled “Dr Rodney and the present struggle” which he delivered on June 14 at the National Library Conference Room.

The WPA suggested too that the ruling party and the government may also be upset because of Hinds’ participation in two protest demonstrations against the killing of 16-year-old West Bank Demerara schoolboy Kelvin Fraser.

“The more things change, the more they become the same  – or worse,” the WPA concluded.
