Unity in mining industry very important

Dear Editor,

I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr McWilfred on his election as the President of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association.

With the election of a new president of the GGDMA I can assure you that the fight for continued mining in Guyana will be advanced. I want to call on all miners to acquaint themselves with the mining regulations so as to foster greater understanding of the regulations and prerequisites for mining anywhere in Guyana.

President McWilfred stated that he will launch a sensitization campaign shortly. I am very supportive of this plan. By doing the campaign miners will be in close touch with the association and its executive. The new President of the miners association is a man from the grass root level who I know has the experience and knowledge of all the difficulties faced by the small miners. I see him as the prophet of the small miners the voice of whom most of the time is unheard.

So come on fellow miners, let’s come together and work for a better mining industry and sustainable mining in Guyana. We as a body can advance many changes in the industry, but unity is very important.

Remember the old adage “United we stand, Divided we fall”.

Yours faithfully,
Andrieko Basir
