Why only two parcel days in a week at the New Amsterdam post office?

I would like to know when the Guyana Post Office Corporation would get with the times and modernise their poor services across the various post offices in the country. I make special mention of the New Amsterdam post office. It is my belief that this post office has become one of the major postal centres in Guyana, and without a doubt, the main one in Berbice. Why, then, can’t members of the public access certain services on certain days of the week and at certain hours of the day?  It’s quite ridiculous in this day and age.

I turned up at the New Amsterdam centre to send off some DVDs at just about 11.55am on Thursday last, only to be told that the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) officers (customs) had left since 11.30. I was further told that they begin the processing of parcels at 10.30am and leave an hour later.

The customs officers have to check all non-letter/cards mail, that is, all mail containing things like DVDs, CDs, books, etc. Why are there only two parcel days per week (Tuesday and Thursday), and why are parcel hours just an hour –10.30-11.30am?

Suppose persons are working and only get time to come out of work during their lunch hour? This is just pure nonsense. The Guyana Post Office Corporation is providing a very important service to Guyanese. Therefore, in any business or organisation, are not the customer or consumer’s needs placed before anything else? Aren’t their needs and convenience met before anything else? Why then can’t they extend the parcel service to other days of the week, or station a GRA officer permanently at the post office.

All letters, too, are now weighed by the post office on their scales. The amount of stamps now total in the hundreds. We no longer have standard stamp fees for countries. That is subject to their scales. Can somebody tell me where we’re headed in this place?
