Man shot dead at market identified as Terry Kingston

The man who was fatally shot by a city constabulary rank on Friday night at Bourda market has been identified as 38-year-old Terry Kingston.

Police, in a statement on Saturday had said that they were investigating the circumstances under which Kingston was shot. The shooting had occurred at about 9:45 pm on Friday and at that time Kingston was only identified as ‘Kadir’.

The police had said that investigations revealed that a member of the City Constabulary responded to a report received at the Constabulary Office that ‘Kadir’ had threatened to kill someone.

As the City Constabulary official approached the man, he attacked him with a cutlass and was shot, the police statement had said. Kingston was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

An eyewitness had told this newspaper that Kingston who he knew as ‘Abdul’ had sat close to him at the eastern section of Bourda Market to drink a cup of soup.

According to the man, Abdul had collected the soup minutes earlier from persons who normally shared food there.

He said that Abdul was drinking his soup when three persons came up and one told Abdul “don’t run.”

The man said that two of the men were “security” while the other was not.

The witness had said that ‘Abdul’ got up and was about to run and it was at this point that he was shot. “He just get up and was trying to move off”, the man had said. He had said that ‘Abdul’ earlier had an argument with the man who had brought the “security”.
