A miner accused of stealing raw gold was beaten to death at 14 Miles Issano yesterday morning and a team of police ranks have since been dispatched to the area to investigate.

A senior police officer told this newspaper last evening that the ranks stationed at the Bartica Police Station have not returned but according to the information received, the man whose identity is unknown was beaten.

According to the reports, the miner was working with a dredge owner and it was alleged that he stole some raw gold. The senior officer added that around 0630 hours, he was severely beaten by persons in the mining camp, where he worked and he subsequently died.
