Stabbed Sophia guard died of wounds to lungs -autopsy

Carl Nelson Bollers, the security guard stabbed to death while protecting the Mercy Vocational School and Day Care Centre in Sophia, died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to perforation to the lungs, according to results of a post-mortem examination (PME) performed on his body yesterday.

The police are yet to arrest the persons who attacked the guard on Saturday night and his wife Eileen Elexey continued to pray that they would be brought to justice soon.

When Stabroek News visited the couple’s ‘A’ Field Sophia home yesterday, the woman said following the PME she attempted to move her husband’s body to a funeral home but was met with a hurdle. She explained that her husband’s ID card along with other items were in a haversack which was stolen by those who attacked him. As a result, she did not have any form of identification for him. Although she was eventually allowed to remove the body, she was told that she would have to get some form of identification to get the man’s death certificate in order for burial. “You see how this country stay, how I guh get a ID card fuh he? A girl call Gecom office and dem tell she until next two weeks I would get it,” Elexey said.

Elexey was later advised by her husband’s co-workers to visit the Alberttown Police Station and an officer would give her a document which would assist her in getting things done. The woman said she does not know how to face the future without Bollers, with whom she had two children although only one has survived. “He was a good man, why deh kill he?” the woman said.

On Sunday, Elexey related how she was forced to climb over the centre’s fence since the gate was padlocked and remain with her injured husband for hours before the police arrived and took him to the hospital. She recalled how she had begged persons to assist her in taking the man to the hospital but her appeals fell on deaf ears.

Yesterday, she was much calmer and she said she just wanted to bury her husband’s body.
