Public Hospital storage supervisor charged with stealing bandages

Forty-nine-year-old Ronald Craig of Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara, was on Tuesday placed on $30,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a quantity of elastic bandages, among other items, from the storage room of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Craig, the storage supervisor at the hospital, pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.

He denied that on July 24, at the GPHC, he stole 80 roles of elastic bandages, a quantity of gauze and adhesive tapes, with a total value of $15,181.

Craig told the court that he never stole the items but did not take them to where they were supposed to be stored.

He said that on the day in question he had the items in his possession and was about to take them to the Sterilization Unit at the hospital when he decided to use the hospital washroom before doing so.

He said that he left the items at the security post at the hospital to use the washroom but  when he returned he was held by the security guard and accused of attempting to steal the items by trying to past them through the gate.

After listening to Craig’s version of the incident the magistrate granted him bail and ordered that the case be transferred to Court Ten for August 13.
