Minibus passengers bound for Linden narrowly escaped serious injury yesterday morning after the vehicle topped along the Linden Soesdyke Highway after a blow out.
Kelvin Small, driver of Georgetown minibus BKK 7249, suffered a blow out of the rear left wheel in the vicinity of Adventure on the highway. None of his eight passengers were seriously injured in the mishap but four who suffered multiple injuries were admitted at the Linden Hospital Complex. The others were treated and sent home.
Among those injured were Debbie Obermuller, Tiffany Albert, Dexter Swain, Terrence Hall and Small. According to passengers, Small lost control of the bus after the blow out, causing the vehicle to topple several times before coming to a stop.
Albert, who was sleep at the time of the blow out, was awakened by the impact. “When I woke up I realized that the back wheel was off and the driver was trying to stop the bus but it keep toppling,” she said, adding that several residents quickly rushed to their rescue afterward.
