Patentia man battered at worksite

A Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD) man was on Thursday viciously attacked by another man with whom he had a longstanding feud.

Zamal Hassan, called ‘Boy,’ was battered by his attacker, who used a broken concrete block to inflict several cuts on the hapless man. Hassan was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and sent away.

Residents said that Hassan was tending to a fireplace at his workplace, a Chinese restaurant at Sisters Village, WBD, when his attacker came in and asked for him.

When he was directed to where Hassan was, he launched his attack, attempting to stab him with the pointed end of the broken block. He also used a piece of firewood to lash Hassan in the knee. Hassan sustained wounds to his neck, temple, back and knee. He was reportedly bleeding badly after the attack but was able to walk.

Persons at the scene said that the attacker acted “crazed”. According to them, Hassan had testified that his attacker had stolen a cow and his testimony helped to send the man to jail. “Every time he see am… he does beat he up and tek away he money,” one resident said.

Police took possession of the piece of firewood used in the attack. It was covered in blood. Investigations are ongoing.
