Suspect remanded over robbery on river

Robbery under arms suspect Raymond La Fleur, of Vryheid Village, West Canje, was remanded to prison after he appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, in the New Amsterdam Court yesterday.

It was alleged that on  July 18,  at Manabesie, Canje Creek, La Fleur, 34, being armed with a gun robbed Gibran Ali of $70,000, cash. It was also alleged that on the same date, La Fleur, in company with others, stole $260,000 from Maron Clarke.

Police Prosecutor Inspector Satrohan Dyaram said the virtual complainants were in a motor vessel travelling down river, while La Fleur, along with his accomplices, was travelling in the opposite direction. It is alleged that the defendant and his accomplices, who were unmasked, moored alongside the complainants’ boat and on entering it demanded the cash. The money was handed over and a report of the robbery was subsequently made at the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam.

Following an investigation, La Fleur was identified during a parade, Dyaram said.

The case is fixed for bail review along with report and fixture on August 13.
