Food for the Poor donates computer training systems

Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc on Tuesday handed over computer training systems to four local organisations to aid their information technology (IT) literacy.

In a statement, Food For The Poor (FFTP) said Pandit Suresh Sugrim received a system for the local chapter of the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir Inc Humanitarian Mission, Everett Harewood, President of the Corriverton Development Association collected one for his organisation and Deputy Director of Prisons Malcolm McAndrew received the system for the Guyana Prison Service. A system was also provided for FFP’s Linden committee. Each training system is fully loaded with a 550 vSpace PCI card, XD 2 box, six monitors, one of which is for instructional and or administrative purposes, one CPU and the requisite number of keyboards, among other devices, FFP said.

FFP Executive Director Leon Davis underscored the importance of computer literacy.

He also challenged the representatives to maximise the use of the systems to the benefit of their charges. Davis advised that computer training classes be held at least twice daily to cater to the convenience of beneficiaries.
