Woman accused of forging father’s will

Venessa Fordyce, 28, of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, on Friday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court after her siblings accused her of forging her father’s will.

The mother of twins pleaded not guilty to the charge of forgery when Magistrate Priya Beharry read it to her. She was subsequently placed on $75,000 bail.

She denied that between February 28 and August 24, with intent to defraud, she forged a will purporting to show that she is the legal owner of a property belonging to her father, Joel Anderson, who is deceased.

Fordyce’s lawyer, Adrian Thompson, asked that the magistrate place her on self bail. He said that she got the will that was prepared by her father before he died and that there are four beneficiaries to his assets. The lawyer said that Fordyce’s other siblings say that the document is forged since it states that she is the one to inherit her father’s property.

However, Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that the wife of the deceased went to the Deeds Registry and discovered that the will was forged.

The magistrate then placed Fordyce on bail and ordered that she return to court on September 15.
