Cabinet clears $120.5M D&I contract

The government has approved seven contracts in the agriculture and water sectors and for infrastructural development, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said Tuesday.

Luncheon, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA), said Cabinet had given its approval for a $120.5M contract for the procurement of PVC and Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) pipe fittings as well as a $27.9M contract for rehabilitation of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) office at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.

In the agriculture sector, approval was given for a $27M contract for the rehabilitation of the plant health building at the National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) as well as for an $8.2M contract for the rehabilitation of the NARI building. Approval was also given for the rehabilitation of the Seed and Germplasm laboratory at NARI, at a cost of $31.1M.

Additionally, in the Housing and Water sector, Cabinet approved a contract valued US$144,600 for the procurement of galvanized pipes.

GINA said approval was also given for a contract valued $95.4M for repairs to sections of the road from La Penitence Bridge to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri.
