Cleon Dexter Williams, 37, of Lot 74 Railway Embankment was not required to plead to the charge of manslaughter. He was released on $200,000 bail by Magistrate Haymant Ramdhani at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court.

According to reports, Persaud left his Annandale home to catch fish with his little brother in a canal a short distance from his house.

The lad, who often swam and fished in the said canal, cast his line but it caught onto a piece of wire.

He went to free it and got shocked by the illegal connection that was allegedly attached to Williams’ home.

Following the incident, Williams reportedly fled the area but turned up at the Vigilance Police Station the following day in the company of his brother.

Stabroek News was told that following Williams’ detention, police investigated the matter and were subsequently advised by the Director of Public Prosecu-tions (DPP) to charge him with manslaughter.

Williams will return to court on September 15 when the case is to be called again.
