Four uncovered manholes are a danger to pedestrians on the East Bank Highway

Dear Editor,

If you are walking (or running) in a southerly direction on the eastern pavement of the East Bank Highway (just before the entrance of the Princess Hotel, Providence) you will encounter four manholes situated in a row in the middle of the pavement.
Two of these manholes are without covers, and they reveal openings which are approximately four to six feet in depth. If my memory serves me correctly, this situation has been like this for over one year.

I have often wondered how the thousands of persons who frequent the National Stadium for the various activities which are held there, usually negotiate this stretch of pave.

Fortunately, I have heard of no casualties thus far, and it is because of my fear that some day the worst may occur, that I am seeking, through your letter column, to highlight this problem, and it is my hope that the relevant authorities, whoever they maybe, will see the urgent need to have it rectified.

Further inaction in this regard can result in a grave situation. The pun is intended.
Yours faithfully,
Maurice Abraham
