Armed bandits struck at SAJ Rice Mill Inc at Burma, Mahaicony on Thursday night and after tying up the guards on duty escaped with a canister containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Three men suspected to be the perpetrators were later caught in the getaway vehicle in the city.

Police said in a press release that they are investigating the armed robbery that occurred around 1900 hours.

Investigations revealed that two security guards were on duty when three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the compound and held them up after which they were assaulted and tied up.

According to the press release, the perpetrators then broke into the office and carried away a canister with an undisclosed sum of cash and escaped in a Titan motor vehicle.

“Acting promptly on the report, mobile police patrols in policing divisions were alerted and the motor vehicle was intercepted by an alert police patrol in George Street”, the release said.

The three men inside were arrested and are in police custody assisting with investigations while the motor vehicle has been detained.

Subsequent investigations led to a search of a room at a hotel at George Street, during which an unlicensed .38 revolver with four matching rounds were found.

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
