Guyana Revenue Authority head, Khurshid Sattaur underwent an emergency heart procedure on Monday at the Caribbean Heart Institute of the Georgetown Public Hospital after an echo cardiograph test showed he was at risk of a heart attack
Yesterday, Dr Pratik Soni said that Sattaur was taken to CHI by his physician on Monday morning after he was suffering from chest pains for five days. “Tests were done and revealed heart pumping had gone down which was an indication of a heart attack,” Dr Soni explained.
Sattaur had to have an angiogram done. According to Dr Soni this was risky since Sattaur “was in the process of a heart attack”. The angiogram revealed that Sattaur’s main artery had two blockages and a blood clot.
Sattaur is expected to be discharged from the hospital today. Yesterday from the hospital he said that he was “feeling okay”. “I would like to give them (Dr Soni and staff) full credit for excellent service,” Sattaur who was resting in a chair and surrounded by visitors told Stabroek News.
Dr Soni, resident cardiologist at the CHI, is encouraging all persons to get early treatment for heart attacks. Signs of a heart attack include chest pains which last for than 30 minutes and have not been relieved by medication or rest.
For diabetics, perspiration and weakness are signs as well. The doctor said that the best treatment is angioplasty at the moment. “The earlier you treat, the better is the outcome and the better is the heart,” Dr Soni said.
