Two Brazilians were refused bail yesterday by acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson after they were read joint charges of possession of narcotics and resisting arrest.

Abraao Alves Lima

Abraao Alves Lima, 23, and Adalto De Oliviera Gomes, 21, both residents of Boa Vista, Brazil pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them. It is alleged that on August 25 at Tabatinga, Central Rupununi they had in their possession twelve grams of cannabis. It is also alleged that on the same day at Takutu Bridge, they prevented Constable Xavier, who was executing his duty as a police officer, from apprehending them or others.

Bail was then refused and the matter transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court for September 7.
