Updated: Two miners murdered in Bartica robbery

The bodies of two large scale miners were this morning discovered at a  gold dealer’s residence in Second Avenue, Bartica.

Reports out of the area are that the bodies of two men bore knife wounds. They were identified this afternoon by police as Jainarine Raghubir and Ramdeo Deonarine.  Deonarine known as  ‘Prakash’  is of  Ruby, East Bank Essequibo and Raghubir known as ‘Jai’  is of the Essequibo Coast. They  were discovered at gold dealer’s Ricky Ramnarine’s residence in Second Avenue, sometime  around 10 am today.

Both men are said to be large scale miners and their throats were slit; a quantity of gold was discovered missing from Ramnarine’s residence.

Scores of residents gathered at the location where the bodies were taken from while reports from the area also indicated that several Brazilians were robbed sometime last night. It is unclear whether the latter is connected to the killings.
