Teaching Service, Indigenous Peoples’ commissioners for swearing-in next week

Nominees to the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) will be sworn in to serve for the next three years on Monday by President Bharrat Jagdeo at Office of the President, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said yesterday.

According to Dr Luncheon, those who will be sworn in are: Leila Ramson, Mohammad Khaleel Khan, Hanapatie Veeren, Alan Munroe, Mida Persaud and two ex-officio members; the Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education and a representative from the Guyana Teachers’ Union. Ramson, Veeren and Persaud all served on the last commission.

The commission has the power to appoint persons as teachers in the public service and to remove and to exercise disciplinary control over persons holding or acting in such offices.

Meanwhile, Luncheon also said nominees for the Indigenous Peoples’ Commission (IPC) would be sworn in on Wednesday. The nominees are: Toshaos Yvonne Pearson, Marco Se Souza and Doreen Jacobis; David James, Matilda Saigo, Patricia Singh, George Simon, Gerald Gouveia, Damian Fernandes, James Singh, Father Malcom Rodrigues and Norman Whittaker.
The IPC will oversee the rights and general issues related to Guyana’s first people.
