Man found dead with chop wounds on Kilcoy foreshore

Months after being released from prison a man was found dead on the foreshore at Kilcoy, Corentyne, Berbice with chop wounds about the body.

Ryan Ramkirpaul, 38, was discovered dead at about 9.20am yesterday. His body, police said in a press statement yesterday, had several wounds and has since been taken to the New Amsterdam Mortuary where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Ramkirpaul, police further said, was released from prison during May. The man also served several prison sentences following convictions for various criminal offences including robbery, robbery under arms and larceny.

Meanwhile, this newspaper was reliably informed that Ramkirpaul suffered chop wounds to the arms, neck and head. The area where the man was discovered had little blood and residents believe that Ramkirpaul may have been chopped, left to die and then transported to the Kilcoy foreshore.

When this newspaper visited the scene last evening residents laughingly related to each other that Ramkirpaul was now dead. Several said that he was “a known character” in the area.

Just last week, this newspaper learnt, Ramkirpaul had been accused of stealing a quantity of items. The man, residents said, had no fixed place of abode.
The man’s relatives, when approached for a comment, said that they did not have much detail about what had happened to Ramkirpaul. They explained that the man hadn’t lived with them for years and was always in and out of prison.
