Guyanese among 13 held in Jamaica human trafficking ring raid

(Jamaica Gleaner) – Detectives attached to the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID), yesterday morning cracked what is believed to be a major human trafficking ring operating in Jamaica.

The police made the dent in the operation when the OCID team assisted by their colleagues from the Mobile Reserve and Flying Squad raided a night club and house located in St Andrew shortly after midnight.

Thirteen persons including a man and a woman who OCID investigators believe to be the masterminds of the human trafficking ring were taken into custody along with nationals from Panama, the Dominican Republic, Guyana and an Italian.

Detectives from OCID have also identified a number of locals who they want to question in connection with the human trafficking ring.

Head of OCID, Superintendent Fitz Bailey says he will be asking the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and the Fire Department to examine the premises on which the nightclub is located for possible breaches of safety regulations.
