PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago captain Daren Ganga has promised there will be no repeat of what happened in the Caribbean Twenty20 series, when the WICB Regional 50-over tournament bowls off next month.
The two-time regional one-day champions entered the CT20 series in July as heavy favourites but lost to eventual champions Guyana in the semi-finals.
Ganga admitted they had slipped up in that series but would be more focussed as they pursued a hat-trick of titles in the one-day tournament.
“In the regional T20 series there was a drop in standard in that match against Guyana and the boys are working hard to ensure that it does not occur again,” said the long-standing skipper.
“I know that we are going for a hat-trick of titles but the important thing is to get in there and just do the job. I don’t want to pre-empt anything by saying we are going to win the title for sure.
“However, what I can say is that the boys are working extremely hard in order to be ready for the tournament and we are hoping for the best.”
T&T have been busy preparing for the October 14-24 tournament in Jamaica, and were put through a tough two-day camp in Toco, in north-eastern Trinidad designed to strengthen the unity of the side.
Ganga, who has presided over T&T’s recent regional one-day success, deemed the camp a success.
“The players organised a private camp in the hills of Toco and I must say we were able to achieve what we set out to do,” said the right-hander.
“Our trainer Ronald Rogers took us through a harsh trail, which meant climbing the hills and crossing the streams, which was really great. At the end of that gruelling event, we spent a wonderful evening together, just bonding and spending time together.
“We have always been known for our great team spirit and we wanted to build on that. We were able to achieve this and the guys are united and ready for battle.”
T&T will play three warm-up matches before leaving for Jamaica on October 12.
