Clarification

In the wake of the publication of the April 2010 Economist Intelligence Unit Country Report on Guyana, the Stabroek Business published a story based on the contents of the report in its Friday June 25 issue. An editorial on the subject of the EIU Report was also published in the June 25 issue and a subsequent one in the issue of July 2. The June 25 editorial noted that the EIU’s report had “cited a recent Ram and McRae survey,” that survey being the firm’s Business Outlook Survey, 2010. Reference is also made to the Ram and Mc Rae in the July 2 edition of the Stabroek Business. In a separate article published in the Guyana Review of August 2010 Mr Ram is described, erroneously, as “a contributor to the report.”

Neither Stabroek Business nor the Guyana Review found anything in the EIU report to suggest that Mr Ram was in any way associated with the authorship of the EIU Country Report on Guyana. Indeed, the EIU Report makes a very brief reference (five lines) to the Ram and Mc Rae Business Outlook Survey. If the impression had been created that Mr Ram was in any way associated with the authorship of the EIU Country Report on Guyana, we wish to say unreservedly that there is no basis whatsoever for such a conclusion.
