EBDCA restructures Linden cricket

The East Bank Demerara Cricket Association (EBDCA) recently restructured Linden’s Cricket Administration.

This comes after the EBDCA visited Linden and met with representatives of several clubs from the area at the Mackenzie Sports Club to discuss the way forward for cricket administration in the Linden area.

Among the persons present at the meeting were President of the EBDCA Rohan Sarjoo, Vice-Presidents Johnny Azeez and John Trim, Assistant Secretary Sharon Williams, and Secretary of the Demerara Cricket Board Raj Singh along with President of the Linden Chamber of Commerce, Marvin Burns.

In a media release yesterday it was stated  by the EBDCA that “cricket administration in Linden falls under the purview of the EBDCA” and as such the EBDCA obtained legal advice on the “current situation” surrounding Linden’s cricket administration.

Working in alliance with their legal aides, the EBDCA made the major decision at their recent meeting in Linden to “place a freeze” on the operations of the Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA) and replace this grouping with a sub-committee of the EBDCA to administer cricket in Linden.

According to the release “the reasoning behind this decision is that the constitution of the EBDCA only provides for two classes of members,  associates and full members, and these are restricted to clubs only… It does not make provision for sub-associations.” In addition, “the executive of the EBDCA is empowered by its constitution to appoint sub-committees as they deem fit.” The sub-committee appointed is headed by John Trim and includes Lancelot Easton, Wanda Richmond, Sharon Williams and Sydney Cumberbatch.

Already on the sub-committee’s agenda is the commencement of the Persaud’s 20/20 competition in Linden this weekend with 13 teams invited to participate.

Another segment of the competition has already begun in the East Bank area and the semi-final is anticipated to feature two teams from the Linden zone and two teams from the East Bank zone. Meanwhile, a follow-up meeting is scheduled for November 15 at the Mackenzie Sports Club at 17:00 hrs and all clubs are invited to send their representatives.
